Passive Fire Protection

Passive Fire Protection, Risk Assessments & Remedial Works

The intention of Passive Fire Protection is to contain fires and limit/slow their spread throughout a building, through use of devices such as fire-resistant walls, doors and floors. We supply and fit passive fire protection systems that do not require electric, gas or water to operate. They are always 'on' (cannot be turned 'off') and are inherent in the structure of a building. In the event of a fire, passive fire protection systems contain the spread of both fire and smoke through:

• Cavity and cladding fire barriers
• Fire-resisting air transfer grilles (ventilation)
• Fire-resisting boards, pillows and blocks for gap sealing
• Fire-resisting ductwork and ductwork seals
• Fire-resisting construction foam and mastics
• Fire door furniture & hardware
• Glazing channel & tape
• Lighting hoods
• Linear gap seals
• Penetration seals for pipes, cables and other services
• Reaction to fire coatings - steel and timber coatings and decorative paints

Remedial works
These are the associated works to be carried out after installation or repair of Fire Systems both Active and Passive. The majority of remedial works will be cosmetic repairs plastering and decoration.

Fire Risk Assessments
From 1st October 2006 The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the Responsible Person (RP) of any non domestic premises to carry out a fire risk assessment, including measures to reduce or eliminate the risk of fire, and identify persons at risk. Where there are 5 or more employees, a record must be kept of significant findings and a definition of a Responsible Person is contained in the above Order.
We work with a number of partners who are fully qualified to carry out Fire Risk Assessments across the UK to check building safety and exit procedures, very important in Life Safety.
